Amanda:

Make yourself comfortable at home.

Ebuka:

(Looking around the house)

Thank you Amanda. Is this real your house?

Amanda:

Of course it is, I own it. This is one of my smallest houses I have.

Ebuka:

Wow, that’s nice.

Amanda:

So let’s forget about my house for a moment, are you still interested in finding a job?

Ebuka:

Yes I am. Lack of job made me began selling newspapers, all my certificates are ready.

Amanda:

Good, my office address is written in that card I gave to you yesterday. Come down to my office with your certificate so that I can help you secure a job.

Ebuka:

(Thankful)

I am very grateful Amanda, God will bless you for this kind gesture you want to do for me, God will be you.

Amanda:

Amen.

Amanda:

(Collecting it)

(Looking at her wrist watch and stoodΒ  up) I am greatly famished, do you want to step out with me for lunch?

Ebuka:

(Getting up also)

Of course Amanda, but I don’t have any money on me to pay.

Amanda:

Don’t worry, I will pay for our lunches, come on let’s head out.

_____

(Amanda and Lillian.)

Lillian:

What happened, I haven’t heard from you for the past one week now.

Amanda:

I have been running around securing a job for Ebuka.

Lillian:

Ebuka? Who is Ebuka?

Amanda:

Ebuka the one that was our class president throughout our course.

Lillian:

(Remembers him)

Oh Ebuka, wait ooo, you mean you’re securing a job for him? How did you even meet him.

Amanda:

Yes, he was selling newspapers and I nearly hit him, I came down to apologized only for me to see it was Ebuka.

Lillian:

Wonders shall never cease to end. So have you secure a job for him yet?

Lillian and Ebuka, was seen still selling his newspaper.)

Ebuka:

Why did you ask me to come.

Lillian:

(Pretending to check some of the newspaper with him)

So that I can remind you not to mess with my game, you know what to do, don’t delay this.

Ebuka:

You know it’s going to be delayed, I can’t just wake up one morning and ask her to give me millions of naira. It doesn’t work that way, I know what I am doing.

Lillian:

You better know ooo, because if you fuck this game up, I will personally end your life.

(Lillian brought one newspaper and left)

Amanda’s Office:

( Amanda and Gift sitting down.)

Gift:

So you meant your old time friend and you decided to help him look for a job?

Amanda:

Yes, and I have been hearing from the company he works, how good he is.

Gift:

Okay, maybe it was God who had sent you to him.

Amanda:

I thought so too. Anyway, I am happy for him, he was very intelligent when we were in school, I don’t know why he ended up selling newspapers.

Gift:

All the same, God used you to bring him out of poverty. One day introduce me to him.

Amanda:

Sure I will.

******

Amanda’s Car:

( Amanda and Ebuka inside her car.)

Ebuka:

(Talking to in his head)

How do Lillian expect me to reject the platter of gold presented to me? I have been searching for a job for more than six years, and now Amanda gave me a job and she wants me to reject it, that’s not possible. Truly I came here for the game but that has changed, I can’t see myself betraying Amanda after everything she had done for me. I will have to tell her the truth.

Amanda:

(Turn to stare at Ebuka briefly before facing the road.)

Ebuka what is it? What are you thinking?

Ebuka:

(Amanda voice brought him out of thought)

Nothing, I was just thinking of how beautiful you’re today but didn’t know how to say it. Well I have said it out now.

Amanda:

(Smiling)

Thank you.

Ebuka:

I will stop right here, my place is not far from here.

Amanda:

But I can still drop you at the frontage of your house.

Ebuka:

Don’t bother yourself Amanda, it’s trekable.

Amanda:

Okay if you say so.

(Ebuka came down from the car)

Bye, see you tomorrow.

Ebuka:

Bye, thanks for the ride.

(Amanda drove off as Ebuka stop a bike)

******

Lillian’s House:

( Lillian and Ebuka sitting down.)

Lillian:

Ebuka, my patience is running off, don’t force me to do something stupid. Others did their job within a month time and you are wasting more than that.

Ebuka:

I want to ask you a question, don’t you feel remorseful for what you are doing to a friend that calls you her sister? Do you want to be doing all these your whole life?

Lillian:

That’s none of your business. I will do to Amanda whatsoever I want to do to her, I brought you into this game, and you must play your own part. Don’t make me call you again to ask you what’s delaying you. Have I made myself clear?

Ebuka:

Yes.

Lillian:

Good, now get out of my house.
